Why is it necessary for acetogenic bacteria to have low partial pressure of hydrogen ?

In 4 stage biogas production i found in the literature that the acetogenic bacteria needs to have low partila pressure of hydrogen otherwise volatile facty acids are prodcued than acetate,carbon dioxide and hydrogen .why is this happening ? why can't they produce while hydrogen concentraion is still high ? and why is acids are prodcued? any realtion?
