Sony PSP wi-fi compared to laptop wi-fi?

I have a Sony PSP that ,of course, has wi-fi. I have a laptop that has wi-fi. Sometimes, i can connect to the neighboorhood hotspot in my house with my laptop, but i can NEVER connect with my PSP using the same wireless signal. Does anyone out there know of any way to improve the wireless signal so i can connect with my PSP?
